I Miss You Like the Porch Misses Your Boots

Intro

Mm-hmm, oh-oh

(la-la, la)

Verse

The porch light's on but it's just a shadow of you

Your coffee mug sits cold, the ring left where you put it down

I talk to the radio, sing the songs you used to choose

My hands keep finding pockets that ain't holding your town

Pre-chorus

I wear your old jacket when the evening bends slow

The stitches know the shape of the way you used to go

Chorus

I miss you like a slow train misses the sun (I miss you)

I miss you like an empty jar misses the run (oh-oh)

I miss you in the kitchen, on the back road when it's June

I miss you like the porch misses your boots, I miss you

I miss you like the porch misses your boots, I miss you (mm-mm)

Verse

There's a map on the table with a corner turned down

Your handwriting like a compass, but the miles don't come around

At the diner by the highway they still keep your favorite pie

I sit where you used to sit and swallow down goodbye

Pre-chorus

The laugh we shared lives in the hum of the old fan

I reach for a promise but it's gone like sand

Chorus

I miss you like a slow train misses the sun (yeah)

I miss you like an empty jar misses the run (oh)

I miss you in the kitchen, on the back road when it's June

I miss you like the porch misses your boots, I miss you

I miss you like the porch misses your boots, I miss you (uh-huh)

Bridge

If I could fold the miles like a letter in my hand

I'd send them back to you, stamp the roadside with a plan

But the mailbox keeps your name and the day keeps slipping through

So I light a cigarette and I practice saying "you"

(you, you) oh-oh

Chorus

I miss you like a slow train misses the sun (I miss you)

I miss you like an empty jar misses the run (I miss you)

I miss you in the kitchen, on the back road when it's June

I miss you like the porch misses your boots, I miss you

I miss you like the porch misses your boots, I miss you (mm-mm)

Outro
