Slow to Speak

Intro

Mmm, slow it down, yeah

(quiet now, quiet now)

Verse

I been runnin’ my mouth, lettin’ words fly free

But the mirror shows a fool when I talk too easily

Pause before the answer, let the silence breathe

Quick to listen, slow to speak, that’s the better me

Pre-chorus

Tongue like a fire, small but it burns

One careless sentence, and the whole house turns

Guard it with wisdom, keep the damage low

Even when I’m tempted, I don’t have to let it go

Chorus

Slow to speak, quick to hear

Let the words I choose bring healing near

Build somebody up, don’t tear them down

Keep my lips from slander, let love be the sound

(oh-oh, oh-oh)

Slow to speak, quick to hear

Even a fool looks wise when the mouth stays clear

Guard my tongue tonight, let the silence win

Out of the heart the mouth speaks, so I’m guardin’ what’s within

Verse

No more gossip circles, no more throwin’ shade

A betrayin’ confidence only leaves me betrayed

I wanna speak life when the moment calls

Let the words be good, let the words stand tall

Pre-chorus

Tongue like a fire, small but it burns

One careless sentence, and the whole house turns

I’m learnin’ the lesson, I’m countin’ to three

Humility in silence is the strength in me

Chorus

Slow to speak, quick to hear

Let the words I choose bring healing near

Build somebody up, don’t tear them down

Keep my lips from slander, let love be the sound

(oh-oh, oh-oh)

Slow to speak, quick to hear

Even a fool looks wise when the mouth stays clear

Guard my tongue tonight, let the silence win

Out of the heart the mouth speaks, so I’m guardin’ what’s within

Bridge

If I keep it closed, they might call me wise

If I open too quick, watch the damage rise

So I’m choosin’ quiet when the anger’s hot

Let the Spirit settle what my mouth forgot

Chorus

Slow to speak, quick to hear

Let the words I choose bring healing near

Build somebody up, don’t tear them down

Keep my lips from slander, let love be the sound

(oh-oh, oh-oh)

Slow to speak, quick to hear

Even a fool looks wise when the mouth stays clear

Guard my tongue tonight, let the silence win

Out of the heart the mouth speaks, so I’m guardin’ what’s within

Outro

Mmm, slow it down…

(quiet now, quiet now)

Guard my tongue… tonight…
