The Garden and the Rose
Daryl Martin · 12 plays
emotional, melancholic, spiritual, somber, atmospheric, poetic ballad
Lyrics
Verse
When we arrived in the garden,
I stopped and saw the Rose
it's color was that of deepest red,
like blood from Him it flowed
Verse
It wasn't the place that I imagined,
where flowers all around did bloom
instead it was a place of loneliness,
like a vast and empty room
Verse
From the moon that pierced the clouds,
came a beam down to this place
it landed upon that lonely Rose,
I could see tears upon His face
Verse
At the time I didn't know why they fell,
we had just had a wonderful meal
but the words He shared in that Upper Room,
rang out like a ship bells final peal
Bridge
Then as we walked in that garden night,
no laughter seemed to come
our footsteps echoed across the vale,
like that of a lonely drum
Verse
I watched from a distance then,
as the Rose in sorrow prayed
His shoulders shaking with sobs so deep
it was hard to stay away
Verse
Then one by one the petals fell,
and graced the ground below
the beauty that once was the Rose,
had given up it's glow
Outro
Now arising from the ground,
was left a stem that knelt to pray
and footsteps were now a-coming,
and then they led the Rose away.
The garden now dark and empty,
but from the ground where the petals fell
grew roots of Faith and Hope,
that would soon break open the doors of hell.
