Farewell Bob

Intro

*(Soft strings swell, gentle waves lapping)*

Bob... oh Bob...

Verse

In the still green pond where the lilies float,

Lives a turtle named Bob, with a patient throat.

Shell etched by sun, eyes deep as the deep,

He dreams of the paths where the wild winds sweep.

Day after day, he nods to the fish,

Waves to the frogs on their lily-pad dish.

But now in his heart, a quiet tide turns,

The call of the river, the wide world it yearns.

Chorus

Farewell, farewell, my watery kin,

Goodbye, goodbye, let the journey begin.

Shell on my back, slow steps I will take,

One last long gaze at this home by the lake.

Farewell... (farewell), goodbye... (goodbye),

Bob must away, under wide-open sky.

Verse

The minnows dart close, with their silver plea,

"Stay, old Bob, stay, in our company."

The heron calls down from his crooked tree,

"Don't go so soon, there's more here to see."

But Bob lifts his head, feels the pull of the stream,

The mud at his feet like a half-wakened dream.

No haste in his soul, no rush in his stride,

Just a soft-spoken wish to wave and abide.

Chorus

Farewell, farewell, my watery kin,

Goodbye, goodbye, let the journey begin.

Shell on my back, slow steps I will take,

One last long gaze at this home by the lake.

Farewell... (farewell), goodbye... (goodbye),

Bob must away, under wide-open sky.

Bridge

*(Harp glissando, voice rises, then softens)*

Oh, the ache of parting, slow as his crawl,

Through the reeds he will venture, answering the call.

No trumpet of triumph, no drumbeat of war,

Just Bob and his shadow, slipping to shore.

Chorus

Farewell, farewell, my watery kin,

Goodbye, goodbye... (goodbye), let the journey begin.

Shell on my back... (shell on my back), slow steps I will take,

One last long gaze... (one last long gaze) at this home by the lake.

Farewell... farewell... goodbye... goodbye...

Bob must away... away...

Outro

*(Fading strings, single voice lingering)*

Goodbye... Bob... goodbye...

*(Melody drifts to silence)*
