Little Ghost on a String

Intro

(oh-oh-oh) little feet on the pavement

(oh-oh-oh) shadows walking two by two

Verse

plastic bag rustles

mask too big for his face

he knocks on the door

and whispers her name

she floats just behind him

cold hand on his shoulder

says “say it louder

they can’t see me but they’ll still give us candy”

Verse

porch lights flicker

jack-o-lanterns leer

he holds the bag open

she leans in near

“one for you, one for me”

her voice like torn silk

he laughs through the plastic

and the neighbors all think he’s talking to himself

she glides through the hedges

her white dress dragging

leaves turning to edges

“you’ve got an extra shadow

did you bring someone there?”

he shakes his head quickly

but she’s already gone

just the wind and the candy

and the feeling she’s home
