It Is Finished

Intro

Oh-oh, oh-oh

Soft like a breath, soft like a prayer (oh)

Verse

They walked Him out past old stone gates

Feet worn thin from telling truth to men

A crown of thorns, a butcher's laugh

They dragged His knees through dust again

Pilate washed his empty hands (wash, wash)

The crowd called louder, called His name

Two thieves on either side, a world in gray

A mother's eyes could not look away

Pre-chorus

He lifted up His palms, the sky grew thin

Words like paper in the wind (hold on)

He said, "Father, forgive them," soft and thin

And the world kept turning, cold and dim (forgive)

Chorus

On the hill they raised the wood, oh-oh

On the hill the sky went still, oh-oh

Nails through mercy, blood like rain

"It is finished," and He breathed again

It is finished, it is finished (it is finished)

Verse

Mary pressed her fingers to a broken seam

She sang a hymn with no sound left to give

John stood near, his coat of shame

He learned how love will outlive

The soldiers cast their lots for seams, for seams

The crowd turned faces, turned to stone

A man who came to turn the world around

Hung quiet, bowed, and bore it all alone

Pre-chorus

He saw the thief who cursed and then confessed

A promise traded at the edge of breath (stay)

He told His mother, "Woman, here is your son"

And in that passing light, the tender thread was spun

Chorus

On the hill they raised the wood, oh-oh

On the hill the sky went still, oh-oh

Nails through mercy, blood like rain

"It is finished," and He breathed again

It is finished, it is finished (it is finished)

Bridge

Silence fell like winter, heavy, long

The temple curtain tore, and the bells went wrong

We turned our faces, we dropped our stones (we dropped)

Left sandals in the dirt, went home alone

But the story stayed where the splinters bled

A promise written in the dust and bread

Remember when you pass that hill (remember, remember)

Remember how He gave His will

Chorus

On the hill they raised the wood, oh-oh

On the hill the sky went still, oh-oh

Nails through mercy, blood like rain

"It is finished," and He breathed again

It is finished, it is finished (it is finished)
