We Fell in Love in September

Verse

The leaves were turning on the avenue

You wore a coat the color of the afternoon

We talked until the streetlights all came on

And somehow every quiet mile felt like home

Pre-chorus

I still remember how the cold gave way

When you looked at me and asked me to stay

Chorus

We fell in love in September

With the whole world changing color

You took my hand, the year grew still

And I knew I always will

Love the way you found me there

With autumn tangled in your hair

We fell in love in September

And I would choose you all over

Verse

The coffee cooled between us in the rain

We traded little stories on the train

Your laughter followed me back home that night

A small and certain kind of morning light

Pre-chorus

And every year when August fades

I feel that first spark waiting in the change

Chorus

We fell in love in September

With the whole world changing color

You took my hand, the year grew still

And I knew I always will

Love the way you found me there

With autumn tangled in your hair

We fell in love in September

And I would choose you all over

Bridge

If the seasons turn and the years move on

If the last gold leaf is gone

I'll find you where the evening starts

In that September, in my heart

Chorus

We fell in love in September

With the whole world changing color

You took my hand, the year grew still

And I know I always will

Love the way you found me there

With autumn tangled in your hair

We fell in love in September

And I would choose you all over
