Lyrics

Verse

A man packs his bags, thick socks and warm hunting jeans.

It’s 4am with a new blanket of snow laying 6 inches deep.

He grabbed his gun. It’s the first day of hunting season.

The temperature has dropped to two below, sweet bundles and extra thick coat to block the wind.

It’s the first day of hunting season.

Verse

He looks over in the loft at the snoring men, knowing he’ll be the first to feel the wind.

The first tracks in the snow.

It’s the first day of hunting season.

With a pack of meat sticks, some water and a fresh can of chew.

He sets off to wait for the sun to crest the horizon.

Verse

It’s a mile walk to the creek bottom.

He will find an old tree stump, wipe the snow and sit and wait.

As the sun comes up he can see through the trees in the dim light the sound of bare tree limbs sway in the wind.

It’s the first day of hunting season.

Verse

Eyes closed, he listens to the music of nature.

For the sound of snow being crushed by feet of the unknowing deer.

He waits and listens to the musical to begin.

He is at peace in the bitter cold of the first day of hunting season.

It’s the first day of hunting season.
