Nearer Than My Next Breath

Intro

Oh-oh, oh-oh (amen)

Ho—ho—ho, hallelujah

Verse

You meet me in the quiet with a steady hand

You lift the weary places I could not understand

Your mercy like a river, slow and deep and sure

You call me by a name that lives forevermore

I come with ragged questions, trembling in my doubt

You bend and say "beloved," and all my fear falls out

Your promise is a doorway; I step through and stand

Held by holy favor, held by Your gentle plan

Pre-chorus

All I am, all I bring, I lay it at Your feet (I lay it down)

Every broken piece becomes a song so sweet (so sweet)

Chorus

You are nearer than my next breath, nearer than my skin

You are the answer to the longing I hold within

I am Yours, I am Yours, I am Yours (I am Yours)

You are nearer than my next breath, nearer than my skin

You are the shelter when the night comes in

I am Yours, I am Yours, I am Yours (I am Yours)

Verse

When doubt is like a winter and my courage grows thin

You send a little morning, warm and sure again

Your hand restores the broken, Your voice invites me home

I trade my weary wandering for the place You roam

You teach my feet to follow, You teach my heart to sing

In the hush of every promise, Your faithful mercies ring

I run into Your presence where my name is always known

You pull the scattered pieces—make them golden, make them whole

Bridge

Lift my hands, lift my eyes, lift my voice (lift it up, lift it up)

All my fears undone beneath Your faithful light

Come and wake the wonder, come and still the storm

Let holy joy awaken every room inside my heart (inside my heart)

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah (oh-oh)
