The Day We Stayed Outside

Verse

We left our phones on the kitchen table

Chased the morning down the road

Barefoot laughing by the water

With nowhere else to go

Pre-chorus

The afternoon turned golden

The whole sky opened wide

I knew I'd keep this moment

For the rest of my life

Chorus

That was the best day of my summer

Sun-warm shoulders, salt on our skin

We kept the windows down till midnight

And let the whole world spin

No plans, no reason to hurry

Just your hand in mine

That was the best day of my summer

The kind you never leave behind

Verse

We shared cold drinks at the corner

Watched the shadows cross the street

Someone played a song from an open window

And everybody found the beat

Pre-chorus

The evening climbed to purple

The first stars came in view

If I could choose one day forever

I'd spend it there with you

Chorus

That was the best day of my summer

Sun-warm shoulders, salt on our skin

We kept the windows down till midnight

And let the whole world spin

No plans, no reason to hurry

Just your hand in mine

That was the best day of my summer

The kind you never leave behind

Bridge

When the cold comes back in December

I'll remember how it felt

A little bit of July forever

Hidden somewhere in myself

Outro

The best day of my summer

Still shining in my mind

The best day of my summer

The kind you never leave behind
