Wrapping up our holiday memories, with big gold shiny bows. An orange Christmas tree shines on Grandad Bluff, The reason for the season. The nighttime skies glow pink, the North Pole’s oven’s hot. Mrs. Klaus and Santa’s elves, they’re bakin’ Christmas treats. Excited kids they fidget, lined up for ole St. Nick, A jolly man decked out in red. “You naughty, or you not?” We’re munching yuletide snacks, leafing through the Sears Wishbook. Rosettes, egg nog and candy canes, they sure do hit the spot. We hope, we pray, we wish for gots. Will Santa mark us naughty on his final, second look? A piping organ at Cathedral, a Golden Mass at school. A Nativity scene with angel hair, foretells an Advent miracle. Down by the mighty river, three million bulbs do glow. The ooohs, the ahhs, dragon’s breathing fire, so cool. The tree’s ornate with Shiny Brites, and sparkling, twinkling light. That Lifesaver man’s from ‘69, the beady-eyed owl is new. A howling beagle’s concert, Mandy dons her Santa suit. While Mother with child watches over us, all through the silent night. The secret morning wakeup rap, it goes knock knock knock. And waiting games of CandyLand, and Chutes and Ladders, too. Anticipation builds, yet not a sound, til ma and pa are finally up! We spring downstairs to open gifts, like sprinters off a starter’s block. The stockings hang stuffed by the chimney with care. Ribbon candy, orange oranges, Lifesavers books, mixed nuts. Where’s Santa’s milk and cookies, and Rudolph’s carrot treat? They’re gone! And there’s ski tracks in the alley, but Santa’s sleigh’s back in the air. Lynn sat first on Sir Santa’s lap, Bob’s pedal car is blue. Ann doodles with her Spirograph, Jean feeds her Henry dogs. Mark dozes off to late ball games, clock radio wakes him up for school. My, oh my, how time goes by. So fast, so quick, it really flew. Creepy Crawlers, Jean’s Barbies. Mark’s Tonka trucks, an Etch A Sketch. There’s books and Ann’s trike. Bob’s train and Lynn’s dolls. Mom’s slippers and sweaters, Dad’s card in the tree. And Father’s wants are fairly sparse, so fishing gear’s his annual ketch. It’s lutefisk and lefse, Swedish meatballs on the side. A box of chocolate Turtles, and cans of Planters nuts. A crate of Pepsi bottles, and Tom and Jerry drinks. Cheesy taters and sauced herring. And then we’re apple pied. It’s off to Grandma’s, too, jammed in that big ‘ole Blue. Quick kisses, hugs and greetings, then gifts are all exchanged. The cousins at the kids table, enjoy their roast beast feast. Then we load up our loot, pile in the back seat, stargaze out the rear window, trace the route Santa flew… Wrapping up our holiday memories, in big gold shiny bows. An orange Christmas tree shines on Grandad Bluff, The reason for the season.

Wrapping up our holiday memories, with big gold shiny bows.
An orange Christmas tree shines on Grandad Bluff,
The reason for the season.
The nighttime skies glow pink, the North Pole’s oven’s hot.
