That Ride Brought Me My Girl

Verse

Back in those TSU days,

Gail and Rose were on their way,

Ridin’ with Gene in his car,

Workin’ shifts and chasin’ stars.

Downtown just another ride,

’Til Gene pulled over curbside,

Picked up his brother walking by—

That’s the moment love came alive…

Pre-chorus

Ooooh, fate was ridin’ in that old sedan,

Ooooh, that’s when cool Larry first reached for Gail's hand…

Chorus

That ride… brought me my girl,

My sunshine, my whole world.

Four kids later and a lifetime strong,

Love was humming like a Motown song.

Yeah, that ride… brought me my girl.

Verse

I jumped in with a smile so wide,

Said, “Which one of y’all is with my brother tonight?”

Everybody laughed, oh the spark was there—

A little glance that the others caught in the air.

Gail knew Felix, Rose knew Gene,

At Kashmere High they’d all been seen.

Rose got sick one day, needed help for the miles,

And that’s when life began to rearrange in style.

Pre-chorus

Ooooh, they made a pact back in junior high,

Ooooh, two best friends with their hearts aligned…

Chorus

That ride… brought me my girl,

My sweet thing, my precious pearl.

From TSU halls to a lifelong vow,

Look at the love they’re living out now.

Yeah, that ride… brought me my girl.

Bridge

Brothers flipping coins beneath the city lights,

Laughing ’bout who the future just might bite.

Didn’t matter what side that silver fell—

’Cause Larry and Gail already knew too well.

Rose and Gail, two friends so tight,

Gene and Larry made everything right.

Soon they all were one family strong,

Willie Hall jumpin’ in just singin’ along…

Verse

Years rolled by like sweet summer wind,

Four children born from where love begins.

Laugh lines, hard times, but they stayed true—

A love that Motown would’ve sung right through.

From that downtown stop to a whole new life,

Gail became my lady, Larry’s forever wife.

Four beating hearts came from one lucky day—

When my love pulled over in a Chevrolet.

Chorus

That ride… brought me my girl,

My sunshine, my whole world.

Decades later and we’re still so strong,

Still hummin’ that old Temptations song.

That ride… brought me my girl,

Ooooh my girl…

Yeah, that ride… brought me my girl.
