Make a worship song using the voice of ai tate boone from youtube singing the following song in soft country style with a theme developed from the following: Paul does not present Jesus as an isolated individual whose death and resurrection merely create an opportunity for other isolated individuals. He presents Jesus as the Last Adam. Adam and Christ stand as two representative heads of humanity. Paul writes: “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”7 1 Corinthians 15:22 And again: “The first man Adam became a living being. The last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.”8 1 Corinthians 15:45 Adam did not ask our permission before his disobedience became the history of the humanity he represented. In the same way, Jesus did not wait for our permission before assuming our common humanity and becoming its new Head. What happened in Adam affected humanity before our individual decisions, and what happened in Christ affected that same humanity before our individual responses. Adam’s disobedience became humanity’s fall. Christ’s obedience became humanity’s restoration. Adam carried humanity into corruption and death; Christ carried humanity through death and raised it into new creation. Grace acted before we believed, understood, repented, or responded. Jesus enters the human story as a new beginning. The early Church understood this through the language of recapitulation. Saint Irenaeus of Lyons (c. A.D. 130–202) stood remarkably close to the apostolic generation. He remembered hearing Polycarp in his youth and listening as Polycarp recounted his association with John and others who had seen the Lord. This makes Irenaeus an important early witness to how the gospel was understood and handed down in the generations immediately following the apostles.9 His understanding of being born again is deeply rooted in the Incarnation and Christ’s recapitulation of humanity. In Against Heresies II.22.4, he writes that Christ “came to save all through means of Himself, all, I say, who through Him are born again to God,” and then explains that Jesus passed through the various stages of human life, sanctifying humanity from within our own condition.10 For Irenaeus, new birth is therefore not merely an isolated religious decision in which Jesus suddenly becomes connected to an individual; it flows from what Christ has already accomplished by entering our humanity and beginning the human story anew in Himself. Irenaeus taught that Christ gathered up humanity’s history in Himself and retraced Adam’s path in faithfulness. Where Adam disobeyed, Christ obeyed. Where Adam yielded to corruption, Christ entered corruption and overcame it. Where humanity became enslaved to death, Christ entered death and destroyed its dominion from within. This is why the incarnation matters so deeply
Lyrics
(soft guitar, gentle strums)
From the garden where the first one fell
One man’s choice sent us all to hell
He didn’t ask, the story just began
Adam carried every daughter, every son
Then the Last One stepped into our frame
Took our flesh and walked the path we claim
Where the first one turned and let the darkness win
The Last Adam turned and brought the light back in
Jesus, You’re the Last Adam
You carried us through death and raised us up again
Grace was moving long before we knew
You gathered up our story, made it new
Oh, the Last Adam
Oh-oh, the Last Adam
You didn’t wait for us to understand
You became the very ground we stand
Through the years of life and through the tomb
You retraced every step and broke the doom
Jesus, You’re the Last Adam
You carried us through death and raised us up again
Grace was moving long before we knew
You gathered up our story, made it new
Oh, the Last Adam
Oh-oh, the Last Adam
In Adam all have died
In Christ we’re made alive
The first man brought the fall
The Last One brings us all
Jesus, You’re the Last Adam
You carried us through death and raised us up again
Grace was moving long before we knew
You gathered up our story, made it new
Oh, the Last Adam
Oh-oh, the Last Adam
(soft guitar fades, gentle hum)
