Backroads Alone

Verse

We were sneakin' out the back door

Of that old diner on the edge of town

You in your cutoff jeans, me with my beat-up crown

Radio playin' our song on repeat

Thought we'd be forever, wild and free

Pre-chorus

But seasons change, and so did we

Your goodbye note on the dashboard seat

Chorus

Now I'm drivin' down these backroads alone

Windows down, hair a mess, singin' to the phone

You said you'd call, but the line went dead

I'm piecin' me back together in this pickup bed

Yeah, we were somethin' once, but honey, we're done

Burnin' up your letters in the midnight sun

(Oh-oh, we're done)

I'm finally movin' on

Verse

Remember that lake house, fireflies dancin' slow

Your hand in mine, pretendin' time wouldn't go

We carved our names into that old oak tree

Now the rain's washed 'em clean, just like you did to me

Pre-chorus

I replay every word, every fight, every plea

But I'm learnin' to let it all just be

Bridge

One day you'll hear this on the radio dial

Wonder what went wrong, after all that while

But I'll be dancin' in a new dress, new town

No more waitin' for you to come around

Chorus

Now I'm drivin' down these backroads alone

Windows down, hair a mess, singin' to the phone

You said you'd call, but the line went dead

I'm piecin' me back together in this pickup bed

Yeah, we were somethin' once, but honey, we're done

(We're done, we're done)

Burnin' up your letters in the midnight sun

(Oh-oh, we're done)

I'm finally movin' on

Outro

Yeah, movin' on

(Oh-oh, movin' on)

Finally gone
