Alleluia, Christ is Born Tonight

Intro

Oh-oh, ha-hey, alleluia (ha!)

Come on, come on, come on, come on — sing!

Verse

There in Bethlehem a cradle small and mild,

A newborn cry, the miracle of a child.

Mary holds the promise, Joseph keeps the light,

The world tilts soft and morning breaks the night.

Shepherds run with wonder on the hill so steep,

Stars bend low to watch the world asleep.

Angels on the hillside call out clear and bright,

Glory and a song that fills the sky tonight.

Pre-chorus

Lift up your lanterns, lift up your hands (lift up, lift up),

Every doubting corner brightens at His glance.

Fear falls away like winter melting thin,

Hope steps forward — let the chorus begin.

Chorus

Alleluia, alleluia, Christ is born tonight (oh-oh)

Alleluia, alleluia, Emmanuel, our light (oh-oh)

Sing alleluia, sing alleluia, voices rise and soar (hallelujah)

Alleluia, alleluia, praise forevermore (oh-oh-oh)

Alleluia, alleluia, Christ is born tonight (oh-oh)

Alleluia, alleluia, Emmanuel, our light (oh-oh)

Sing alleluia, sing alleluia, let the heavens ring (hallelujah)

Alleluia, alleluia, praise our newborn King (hey!)

Verse

From distant lands the wise ones make their way,

Bearing gold and mercy for the child they pray.

They kneel upon the straw, crowns set down like dust,

Gifts of heart and honor, trembling in their trust.

Little hands are reaching for a world made new,

Every cage of sorrow cracks and opens through.

This tiny, holy entrance changes every plan,

God-with-us walking gently through the span of man.

Pre-chorus

Join in the gathering, every voice and tongue (come on),

Sing of the promise born, the ancient song begun.

Chains undone by mercy, weary hearts made strong,

This is the morning where our praises belong.

Chorus

Alleluia, alleluia, Christ is born tonight (oh-oh)

Alleluia, alleluia, Emmanuel, our light (oh-oh)

Sing alleluia, sing alleluia, voices rise and soar (hallelujah)

Alleluia, alleluia, praise forevermore (oh-oh-oh)

Alleluia, alleluia, Christ is born tonight (oh-oh)

Alleluia, alleluia, Emmanuel, our light (oh-oh)

Sing alleluia, sing alleluia, let the heavens ring (hallelujah)

Alleluia, alleluia, praise our newborn King (hey!)

Bridge

Oh — come and see, come and see, holy mystery (come and see)

Oh — lay your burdens down, leave your history (leave it, leave it)

Oh — the promise came to stay, here among the small (here among the small)

Oh — love that lifts us up, love that holds us all (love that holds us all)
